What to Wear with a Military Jacket

The Challenge
I'll admit it, I adore olive green and the ruggedness of military jackets.  When I saw this Anthropologie jacket featured on You Look Fab awhile ago, I knew I wanted to investigate it.  So, v-e-r-y fortunately, it is not heavy and is more like a shirt jacket.  Perfect for our Florida weather!  The
peplum and colored and beaded chest bars gives it a feminine vibe.  The push-it-over-the-edge selling point for me was the colors on the emblem.  Do I have tops or bottoms that are those colors?  Why, yes, I do!  Let's start putting outfits together!

The Details
Adding my off-white jeans was a no-brainer to coordinate with the beads on the right shoulder.  From there, it was just a matter of looking through my tops (I have several) that would coordinate with the colored patch.  I chose this tank top that had slits in the sides which enabled the front of the tank top to be completely tucked in, so as not to interfere with the peplum.  I wanted to keep the other elements dark so there wouldn't be more competition for the eye.  My dark berry-colored belt even coordinates with the patch.  I kept my accessories minimal (for me) because of the heat and humidity.  I thought the length of the necklace hit nicely for the framing of the collar.

The Takeaway
Knowing your style preferences and being mindful of what you already own, will help you decide which clothing items are worth more of an investment.  Be conscientious of the fabric--will it serve you well in many circumstances?  Will it work with other colors and cuts in your closet?  In this case the peplum top will necessitate pencil skirts and skinny pants (generally).  Check and check on those.  The "similar" jacket I listed has colors on the shoulders, otherwise, you could use brooches or a scarf to emulate this look.
