Nightshirt or Kimono: Going with the Flow

The Challenge
Are you a go-with-the flow woman or go-against-the-current woman?  How would you define yourself?  I think as we age, at least speaking for myself, we are able to be a little more relaxed about
things going our way, or not, than we used to.  Can I still be determined (stubborn) and want things done my way sometimes?  For sure!

I've been trying to embrace the kimono trend.  (Is it still a "trend" or has it gone over to style?).  Really, I have.  But.  The.  Flow.  At this moment in time, I cannot simply go with the "flow!"  I know not all, but many, kimonos are quite flowing.  I keep trying them on, but have not hit on any that I care for.  For my clothing selections, I greatly prefer items with more structure.  During a recent shopping trip a totally unexpected article of clothing crossed my path.

The Details
I could not wait to showcase this Bed to Brunch Nightshirt!  Is it silly, chic, fun, outrageous?  Maybe "Yes!" to all of the above!  During my last trip to Nordstrom Rack, I was oddly (freakishly) drawn to this.  They had a few on the rack and they were all XLs.  I bought it anyway, and brought it home and took it in with my sewing machine.  Of course, it contains colors that are in my existing palette.

This "nightshirt" has real sleeves, collar, a more fitted body, I'm crazy about it!  It does have some softness, but not flow-i-ness.  Is it PJ inspired?  Yes.  Wearing pajamas, or at least just the shirt part, was a "thing" a few years back.  I think this piece can still stand the test of time as it becomes part smoking jacket, part shirt, part duster, and almost sorta, part kimono.

The Takeaway
If you're freakishly drawn to something that doesn't seem practical, try to think of how you might make it more workable.  In my case, the answer was right there on the label!

    1. Ha ha, Jodie, it's funny that you've compared me to Charlotte. I can't tell you how many times her outfits, or how's she's personalized them, has resonated with me!

  2. Kim, you are genius! I love this on you and totally get it. Sometimes kimonos are so flowy they just don't work. You've styled this beautifully and no one would ever guess it's a night shirt! I have one kimono that is a little more fitted and sometimes I feel like my dog groomer in it! Ha! Ya know? It looks like the top she wears, lol.
    Looking good and FIERCE!!!
