Tonal Dressing: Booties and Brown

The Challenge
I always enjoy when bloggers set up a theme for posts.
Not only does it make it easy for me to plan, but also, I get to dig into my closet and drawers and see what I can come up with.  The ladies at The Blended Blog set this week aside for "booties."  Originally, I was all about featuring the floral booties I wore in my post last week:  What to Wear with a Plaid Shirt.  In the vision I had in my mind, I was not feeling the outfit or photo shoot for them.

Taking a look in my closet, I decided to use these bootie sandals, as I've been fussing about the heat and I didn't want anything closed in.  Next, I grabbed my brown cardigan.  With those two items, I could select just about any combination of top/pants and have them coordinate.  When this skirt caught my eye--the tonal/monochromatic bug bit again.  While reaching for my solid brown handbag, my trusty Patricia Nash camo one attracted my attention.  Since brown and red are one of my favorite combinations of color, it was a winner!

The Details
The Joan Vass cardigan, CATO skirt and booties were all thrifted.  The pull-in is my J. Jill, twist front top.  Adding my red bits keeps the outfit from looking too flat.  I pulled out my red lipstick, too, I know it's not necessary to match(!), but I don't wear it often enough!  Tying the cardigan around my waist was fun and a nod to the weather, however, I'm not sure my waist can really stand the scrutiny.  Swapping the booties out for red shoes would be another winning look, I think.

The Takeaway
I always get excited when I pull a new combination together that I haven't worn before.  This is yet another one of those times when having a coordinating wardrobe can make the difference between "nothing to wear," and "Yay!  A new outfit!"

Wow, I'm not sure how the top/skirt got so twisted (above)!

Stay Fierce!  Kim

  4. Hi Kim!
Such beautiful colors together, really epitomizing Fall. Love the browns rust, the red you added with your necklace. Very pretty outfit and your sandals are so neat, love the design. It is funny, we moved to NC from Pittsburgh PA, 15 years ago, but I have more Fall clothes than summer/spring.

  6. Nicely done Kim! And you're right...the style challenges make us put our creativity into action and we end up wearing things we never have tried right from our closet. So fun! I like the monotone look of your get up with the pops of red - and I need more booties like that for this Florida heat!
