Utility Jacket Dressed Up and Down

The Challenge
Last weekend,  daughter número cuatro had a concert on Sunday afternoon.
The concert ended up being moon/space themed and was so fun!  One of the pieces had a soloist who sang Blue Moon.  She did a fantastic job.  The finale piece was a combination of the newest Star Trek movie score and the original TV score.  We are nothing if not Star Trek fans at this house.  (I think our favorite series is Next Generation.)  Darling Husband and I drove down to Ft. Myers right after church.  That means I wanted to wear a skirt to church (lots of women wear pants, but I am both old school and I like skirts), so needed to come up with something where I could do a quick switch before we got in the car for two hours.  My church clothes really seem like they need a breath of fresh air at the moment, this combo helped somewhat.

The Details
The outfit literally started from the ground up, as I opted to wear my new burgundy suede sandals.  My Chico's Boho skirt made the cut since I thought it would both go well with the shoes and be versatile enough for different tops.  Next, came my Target burgundy sleeveless top.  Although I frequently reach for a cardigan, my utility coat was beckoning me (Gap brand, found at thrift store).  With a quick trip to the ladies' room after church, I swapped out my skirt and wide belt, for jeans and a leopard print belt.  Full disclosure, I wore Birkenstocks in the car and at the concert, but changed back into my burgundy sandals for dinner out.  I was feeling "tough chic" in this one!

The Takeaway
Look to items you may not think to pair together i.e. you can dress up your utility jacket a bit when you need or want a crossover look!

  1. Two great looks Kim! Of course I love the look with jeans because I'd wear it in a heartbeat! That skirt is so unique and perfect for this crazy warm weather. The burgundy boots matches so well with the booties. Glad you had a great time!

    1. Thanks, Kellyann! I know, I wasn't sure how to dress at all. At least the jacket is light.
