About Style Imitating Art
Welcome to this edition of Style Imitating Art!

Style Imitating Art is hosted biweekly by Daenel~Living Outside the Stacks, Salazar~14 Shades of Grey and me.  Style Imitating Art challenges us to look to create an outfit using art as inspiration.  In addition to colors, you may also want to look at textures, mood, style, genre.  There are no "wrong" outfits, and you don't need to be literal.

The Inspiration
The current artwork selection is Still Life with Blue Enamel Coffeepot, Earthenware and Fruit by Vincent van Gogh.

The Curator
This selection is curated by me, because, did you know that June is National Fruit and Vegetable month?  No?  In the spirit of things, let's dress like fruits and vegetables!  Just kidding!  There are so many colors from which to choose, lots of denim-friendly blue, orange, yellow, chartreuse, gingham, flowers...  The artwork is entitled "Blue Enamel Coffeepot," but it looks black to me!

My Look

I had, had to wear gingham and am wearing the only gingham that I own!  It seemed like there were so many routes to go with this artwork.  As much as I wanted to add in faded denim, it just wasn't happening.

This is the first time I've pulled these Eileen Fisher lantern pants out this season.  Sometimes when I pull current season items out from the bowels of the closet, I'm so over them.  Not so with these pants!  Although they do show some wash fade at this point, I'm still crazy about them.  It may have looked more cohesive to add a rust-colored necklace, but I really wanted to incorporate chartreuse and these lemon jade beads do a little of that.  Wire/beaded bracelets are several years old that I keep pulling out because they are so "me."  Since the painting had different nuances of orange, I pulled my Comfortiva sandals and a thrifted Cole Hahn bag that appeared on my Instagram recently.  The look is finished off my my Mac Brick O'la lipstick which has appeared several times on the blog.  A word about this shade, decades ago I had an #ontherepeat an Estée Lauder lipstick that was similar to it--it's almost an enhanced natural lip color for me.  I'm really glad I found it while looking for an orange lipstick.

I probably wouldn't have put the top and pants together if it weren't for this challenge, as they both have extra fabric, but I think they work!
