Friday Favorites #14

1.  Key West Trip.  Ya'll know this is where I was for a couple of days last week.  We took a 4-hour boat ride and spent the night.  The temperature wasn't that high (mid 80℉s/29℃), but we were out in
the humidity all day.  Next week, I'm going to share some do's and don'ts about the trip.  In the meantime, the top photo is from the green-filled walkway at our inn.  There were gorgeous orchids sprinkled here and there.  It was hard to capture them in photos, because it was either dark and shaded or blazing sunshine.

A pier near the southern most point of the US.

Same pier area.  Silly us, we didn't take any photos together!

View from the boat leaving Key West.

2.  Jewelry Making Findings from Key West.  The three small cowrie shells are so adorable, I'm not sure how I'm going to use them exactly.  With the mother of pearl, I'm doing another copycat necklace.  The chain is from an Etsy seller.

3.  Darling granddaughter had a "graduation" from 4 yr. olds on to Kindergarten.  Yeah, I don't get it, either.  But, gosh, is she cute!

4.  (Finally) saw Avengers:  Endgame.  I'm not nearly the fan that the rest of my family is, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Go see it, if you haven't already!

5.  New Old Navy Shorts.  I wish I would have had these when I was in Key West.  If you are looking for a cool, pull on shorts style, purchase these right now!   They are shorter than I normally wear, but for vacation and around the house, they are perfect!  Made of a linen and cotton blend.

Dinner after the funeral with my cousin whom I haven't seen in possibly 20 years!

6.  The (Funeral Weekend) Details
I kind of hate to stick this in with "favorites," let's call it a "follow up."  It's really in more of a bullet-point format...  Our youngest daughter came to MI with us, and I was glad to have her there.  She came with me to my sister's and mother's apartment to help pack.  On the drive over to my sister's I told her I was feeling emotional.  She said, "I don't know what I'll do if you cry, you're the strongest person I know."

When cleaning out my mother's closet, it was strange to start pulling out the clothing.  By the time I got to her shoes, it was actually kind of cathartic, as I was remembering how many times I took her shoe shopping or sent for shoes and she was not happy with them.  Ever.
* * *
When I saw her in the casket (sorry for being so blunt), my thought was, "she'll never hurt me again."  Not the best memory to leave with someone, is it?  No.  I don't want any of her ashes.

My uncle acknowledged that it was good to have my sister do some of the care-taking to give me a break.  Sigh, someone actually "got" it.

* * *
I didn't cry.

Thanks for joining my Friday Favorites, let's do it again next week!
