The ChallengeI was invited to a (major) birthday party recently by a new friend of mine. I really didn't have much of an idea who would be there, but she and I do have many mutual acquaintances, so I was relatively
sure Darling Husband and I wouldn't be out in the cold when it came to socializing. But, "What to wear?" since it's been sooo hot.
The Details
This Treasure and Bond top seamed perfect because it has a bit of a refined look with the ruffles, but it's very cool because it is 100% cotton. Plus, I'm not sure if it really helps with being cool, however, the slit it the back adds an interesting detail. When I looked through my closet to see what skirt might go with it, this refashioned LuLaroe (seen at Friday Favorites #8) one was perfect. Haha--How? Did that happen? I've been referring to this top as gold and the skirt as orange. My conclusion is that the top is an "orange-y" gold and the skirt is a "gold-ish" orange! Seriously! I love that the top has such a long tail (almost overly long), it makes it easier to style. You know I have a tendency to use belts, I like the personality they can give an outfit. I used my strategy of using the opposite color on the color wheel to decide what jewelry to wear. Both the necklace (seen at New Jewelry Beading Bender post) and the earrings were made by me. The bracelet is Kenneth J. Lane found on eBay (several years old). I debated on which shoes to wear, but these won out because of the low heel, as I figured I'd be standing a lot.
Fortunately, it was rainy and overcast before the party. The weather was perfect for sitting out on the lanai, which is really amazing for FL this time of year. Rain does not mean it will cool off! As a matter of fact, when I took these photos a few days later, I had some sun, rain, and thunder all within about 20 minutes. You can see the sun in the first photo, below. It was steaming hot, just a little less steaming when the sun was behind the clouds.
