The Challenge
I don't usually think about authenticity too much, because I don't go around feeling inauthentic.  This new (1/2 off!) Johnny Was top got me thinking about it.  Why?

The Details
The top has been worn a couple of times, already.  When I grab it, a pair of distressed jeans, various accessories and go, I feel especially, authentically me.  While the orange is quite saturated, the design of leaves and flowers breaks it up--they kind of echo my hair.  Add to that accents of teal and soft pink and it makes me happy.  My orange sandals add some Bohemian flair with their fringe and studs.  When I was in Texas I wore this outfit and used my blush handbag, here I wanted to use a more basic neutral, so chose brown.  Keeping the top and jeans, the belt could be swapped out for plain brown, the handbag could go teal, blush or leopard, olive green blends, too.  You can let your imagination go for other combinations!  It's challenging to separate everything out, but I'll try.  The pretty teal trim, ruffles around the yoke of the top, and pink flowers give it subtle refinement.  The coloring and pattern (including sloths, monkeys, and other critters--see smaller photo below) give it a little edge, along with the distressed jeans, of course.  The details of the print, coloring, trim and tassels feel easy, fun, authentic.

The Takeaway
Even though I stalked this top for months, and it sold out online, finding it on sale was a happy accident.  It's wise to tune into the individual or combination of elements that make you feel like your authentic self.  Even if it is an accident.  Do you have an outfit that you feel exhibits your true self?
