The Challenge
Hey, friends!  This is the time of year where we may spontaneously meet up with neighbors, old friends, go to a holiday movie or out to drinks, shopping with a daughter, on a walk to see lights, visit ice sculptures.

I wanted to pull out a few basics from the closet and toss them up in the air and see where they landed as far as putting festive outfits together.  You can do this yourself, too.  I've taken the opportunity to do some of the work for you and maybe help you get your creative outfit juices flowing.  My Dr. Martens and booties were used, because my closed-in footwear is very limited.

The Details
Olive green, red, denim, brown colors and leopard print were used to see what outfits could be created.  After I got done, I realized I hadn't utilized beige or winter white which dress up nicely.  Let's take a look!

Look 1 (above):  Brown jean jacket, gold sequin top, skinny jeans, red accessories, floral Dr. Martens.  You can't beat the classic sequins with denim pairing.  Adding a different color jacket breaks up the blue jean look.  It's my 2nd favorite outfit.

Look 2:  Denim jacket, sequined top, olive green jeans, brown booties, red accessories.  I really wanted to add denim over the sequins, but I don't love this look, I think I'd like my brown brushed twill pants better.  Tip:  A jacket will work better than a cardigan over sequins, as the sequins could snag up the inside of a cardigan.

Look 3:  Long jacket, side tie red top, blue jeans, Dr. Martens, red accessories.

Look 4:  Side-tie red top, leopard skirt, brown booties, red accessories.

Look 5:  Denim jacket, leopard skirt, cardigan worn as top, Dr. Martens, statement bling necklace.  (Should have removed the red bracelet--please ignore!)  I'm insanely crazy about this outfit!

Look 6:  This is very similar to Look 5.  The top, necklace, tights and belt were switched out.

Look 7:  Only the cardigan was swapped out from Look 6.  It makes quite a difference, though, doesn't it?  Very basic and conservative (not in a bad way).

Lucky Brand camo pants (similar)

Look 8:  Burgundy cardigan, red top, camo pants, Dr. Martens.  (I'd add red socks peeking out of the top of my boots, but was only willing to pull them on an off so many times--Ha!)

Look 9:  I could have started all over using beige and white, but you get the idea!  Fringe red cardigan (could easily be swapped out for the plain red cardi), red top, white jeans, leopard mules.

The Takeaway
What says "Christmas" to you?  I like red/burgundy, brown and green.  Look for color combinations and proportions that please the eye.  Try on and stop when you're happy.  Take selfies if you want to remember a new outfit combo.  Now's the time to pull out your sparkly pieces.  Discover you are lacking any items?  Make a note a put them on your buy-for-next-year list.
