Style Imitating Art is hosted bi-weekly by Daenel~Living Outside the Stacks, Salazar~14 Shades of Grey and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to look to create an outfit using art as an inspiration. In addition to colors, you may also want to consider textures, style, mood, genre. There are no "wrong" outfits, and you don't need to be literal.

The Curator
I've been wanting to do a neutral outfit post for awhile and this fabric swatch gave me the perfect opportunity. There is so much shadowing in the background, as well as, neutrals in the branch and section of the leaf. This particular version was also inspired by the below outfit. Unfortunately, I only have three neutral tops and this one (which you've seen numerous times), harmonized best with the pants and cardigan. I'd love to have a richer colored top. A blazer would be fun, too, of course! Looking at my completed outfit, I'd kind of like to do it again with either no or a lighter-colored belt and less-contrasting necklace, not stopping the eye--I think it would look a little chic-er. That will be an outfit for another day-ha!
My outfit consists of cabi's Abbey Road duster cardigan, babydoll top and my new J. Crew chinos which haven't been on the blog before. They are a recent purchase from the outlet mall from several weeks ago. Khaki pants were on my radar, as I haven't owned any in ages. They were given a small pleat before they were rolled up. A continuation of my devotion to my Docs was a natural addition to the outfit, plus adding a bit of burgundy in the spirit of the inspiration fabric.
