Welcome to this edition of Style Imitating Art!
Style Imitating Art is hosted biweekly by Daenel~Living Outside the Stacks, Salazar~14 Shades of Grey and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to create an outfit using art as inspiration. In addition to colors, you may also want to look at textures, mood, style, genre. There are no "wrong" outfits and you don't need to be literal.
The Inspiration
My Look
When I selected this poster, I had no idea what I was going to wear. While I prefer the mustard, olive and orange tones, there is the jarring blue Hoover. A red, white/beige and blue outfit would have been perfectly suitable for this inspiration, too.
The Free People top is a current nuuly rental and the colors make me happy. I had seen it online last summer and was considering buying it, but never did. I'm not sure about it now that I have it since it is so voluminous. The sour orange cardigan goes pairs well and tames the shirt somewhat. I wouldn't have thought to add green pants to the outfit, but it was shown that way on the model and I really liked them together. [Side note: These pants and the lace up ones I wore last week really need to be put in a yellow dye bath. Since I'm on a sewing/dyeing kick, these should get done soon--I'll do a before and after.] My Docs coordinate nicely with the burgundy in the top, although I'd rather by wearing my orange sandals! My friend and cohost Daenel has this same top, I wonder if it will turn up in her interpretation!
