About Style Imitating Art
Welcome to this edition of Style Imitating Art!

Style Imitating Art is hosted biweekly by Daenel~Living Outside the Stacks, Salazar~14 Shades of Grey and me.  Style Imitating Art challenges us to create an outfit using art as inspiration.  In addition to colors, you may also want to look at textures, mood, style, genre.  There are no "wrong" outfits and you don't need to be literal.

The Inspiration

Fair Use

The Curator
We have a guest curator this week, Mike, from the blog PostCard Purposes, suggested Carolina Morning from his favorite artist Edward Hopper.  He thinks it looks both isolated and serene.

My Look
I had toyed with the idea of not wearing red, but had to go with the obvious!  I decided to pile on shades of red as I've done in the past with other colors.  It was a little tricky with what I had on hand, though.  The must-haves were my skirt and jacket.  By the way, the skirt is not ruched it's the crazy way I'm standing.  The top went through a couple of changes.  Normally, I would not have put these things together, as I think the plaid top is quite casual.  Adding the stack of multi-colored, wooden beads really seemed to pull the disparate pieces together.  Several variations of shoes were tried, as well, but the booties seemed to make the outfit more "me."  I ended up loving this outfit and can't wait to wear it out in the world.  I promise I'll stand better.  If you recall, I had been struggling with skirts in general and how to update pencil skirts in particular--this combo really works for me.

The location is very short drive from the apartment and when I saw this signage, knew I had to include it.  While it's a bit garish on its own, it was fun to add the bright blue color as a nod to the vivid sky in our inspiration piece.

On a completely unrelated note, I love how the red looks with my silver hair.  It harmonizes so much better than my cream colored jacket did in my last post.
