Prove me, O LORD, and try me; test my heart and my mind.  For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness. Ps. 26:2-3

Hey, friends!  Welcome to Wednesday!  Well, whaddaya know?  The governor has opened our state up as of Friday, May 1, to retail stores, movie theaters, malls and restaurants starting at 25% capacity, if the businesses want to, they don't have to and will phase in other business at two-week intervals.  You gotta start somewhere, right?

The Challenge
You may remember from my Spring Wish List I was crushing on the Pace Pants (originally $198) from The Artful Home, or the sneak peek of the stitching.  Since I already had a lantern pants pattern, I had purchased some lightweight denim before the quarantine.  These have been done for weeks, I just haven't taken the opportunity to feature them.  I don't remember how much I spent on the fabric--I'm going to guess about $30.

The Details
For the pants, this time, I cut them down a size, since I had to take them in so much last time.  While the previous pair is also topped stitched, I gave this pair double top stitching to emulate the hacked pair.  You can see, my horizontal stitching is down closer to the hemline, while "theirs" is above the knee.  Their denim is darker, too.  This top was added to look like the inspiration outfit.  My jewelry-show-necklace find was a perfect "artsy" complement.  I had my leopard print sandals on until I noticed the model was wearing orange shoes, so, ya know, had to remain true to the vision.  My thrift store handbag coordinates nicely with all of the pieces.

The Takeaway

  • Don't neglect investigating higher-end stores or catalogs.  If you find a look you love, you can keep your eyes open for similar, more affordable items.  Or, make them yourself.
  • Sub out things that better fit your own personal style aesthetic or with things you already own.  While this shirt is perfect for my style steal, I'll probably wear a top with more structure with these pants in the future.
  • Simple accessory swaps can change the feel of an outfit.  In the side-by-side, the model looks more artsy, while my look tends Boho.
