But as for me, I shall walk in my integrity; redeem me, and be gracious to me.  My foot stands on level ground; in the great assembly I will bless the LORD.  Ps. 26:11-12

Happy Monday, friends!  This dress would have been a perfect Mother's Day church and brunch dress, if we would have gone out.  Alas, we celebrated at our apartment with the girls.  It's all good, though.  Let's see how this dress came about!

The Challenge
If you recall, I talked about buying Japanese Dot Floral Canvas (now, sold out) on a recent Friday Favorites post.  At the time I was thinking about making another peplum top, Vogue 1503, but the fabric was too heavy for that.  I went back and forth, and back and forth some more, between making full, cropped pants or a dress.  In the end, I just wasn't feelin' pants.

The Details
Since I had precisely 2 1/2 yards (2.3 m.) of 45" (114 cm.) width fabric, my dress options were limited.  With some creative placement, I was able to get Style Arc's Adeline dress cut out.  The front is one piece and the back is one piece.  For you sewists:  I added 1 1/2" to the length and made some shoulder pads (it looked like a sack without them).  The hem is really a facing, which fascinates me to no end.

You can see this is a loose fit dress, the linen gives it a nice weight, though.  The hem is a slight high-low which is fun and, of course, pockets!  My birthday Sundance necklace was added, because I liked the idea of pearls.  The dark leather cord needed to have some grounding, and it does with my new flatform sandals.  [I had these sandals on order when I talked about wanting a pair last week on 6 Tips for Evaluating Your Wardrobe.   I have such bad luck with online shopping, that I didn't have high hopes.  I'm surprised Zappo's will even let me place an order anymore, since it seems like I send everything back.  God bless 'em!  If you decide to buy them, click through my link at Nordstrom, they are on sale now--Wah!😭]  I like that the dark leather accessories keep the outfit from looking too sweet.

The Options
A dress like this would go all kinds of places--brunch, lunch, church, shopping, a summer party or a shower.  To change things up, you could add some ivory beads or pearls and strappy ivory sandals to get a different feel.  Honestly, I think chunky turquoise jewelry would look good, as well.  Let's not forget the proverbial sneakers.  I tried a belt, but because of the weight of the fabric, it bunched up and didn't look very good.  For as much as I'm not a dress person, I'm really happy with this and think I'll reach for it a lot.  Don't forget to keep trying things that aren't really "you," just in case!

I'm participating in #memademay2020.
