Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.  And above all these things put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.  Col. 3:12-14

Hey, friends!  I had a lot of fun putting this outfit together, the shirt's fabric is heavy-ish, but is woven so it's kind of airy.  It's getting hot here, so my jean-wearing days may be at an end for awhile.  However, this top would look great with off-white/ natural shorts or skirt.  I looked up an open salon to get a pedicure, but never made the call.  Ugh.  I feel like Fred Flintstone without one--hahaha!

The Challenge
I know many of us have sworn off crop tops as we age out of the "perfect body" shall we say?  It's been noted many times on the blog that I am thick waisted.  Imagine my dismay when I saw, fell in love with, and ordered this t-shirt jersey and only when I pulled it out of the package realized it was a cropped length.  I really wanted to try to make it work.

The Details
Fortunately, it isn't super cropped.  The fuller sleeves may help with the proportions, too.  While typically my favorite jeans are mid-rise, this high rise pair added the extra fabric needed to bridge the tummy gap, while the wide leg also adds visual width.  After that, I added a small front tuck to give the appearance of a waistline.  That allowed the rest of the shirt to flow out over my trouble spot.  I didn't want to add a straight cutoff line with a traditional belt, so I whipped up a fabric one in a similar color, so as not to draw too much attention, but to give an offset, vertical element to my waist.  Balancing everything out with stompy sandals, accessories, and a bold lip makes the outfit look cohesive, without making me look like a pumpkin!

4 Tips for Wearing a Crop Top
  • Wear high-waisted pants.  A full leg is a bonus.
  • A front (or off-center) tuck will trick the eye into seeing a waistline.
  • If possible, try using a scarf or extra long belt that can leave a "tail" to add a vertical line
  • Accessories and a bold lip can cause the eye to travel up and down vs. settling on a less-than-perfect mid section.
