Friday Favorites #69 Makes & Product Reviews

See with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand.  It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh who would force you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ.  For even those who are circumcised do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh.  Gal. 6:11-13

Hey, friends!  Welcome to Friday Favorites.  I'm happy to share some things I've been working on and some helpful products.  Can you believe it's the last day of July?  Me neither!  Let's get started.

1.  Makes, shown above.  Cynthia Rowley Simplicity Pattern 8636.  This pattern looked so intriguing on the model photo, that I just had to give it try.  Two tries.  The first version is made from double layer gauze, which I don't remember working with before.  I wasn't sure I liked the fabric/pattern combo, so tried again with a light weight cotton.  There will be a post coming soon with one of them styled!

2.  Attempting to make.  The beige top has been on the blog numerous times and is such a workhorse.  I decided to try to copy it with red Swiss dot fabric.  I've copied clothing before and have had good success.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do about the lace.  Worst case scenario it will be left off completely.  I'm going to see what I can find as a stand-in at Joann's.

3.  Bra Strap extenders.  Everyone and their sister probably has or has had these.  Since I've mentioned weight gain (and, I know I'm not alone, thanks in large part to being quarantined), I was considering getting a new bra, but up a band size.  I forgot how spendy my current Chantelle bras are and when I took a look had sticker shock.  Fortunately, I had one of these languishing in my drawer that I had forgotten about.  Wow, talk about a little gadget saving the day!  I wanted to include these in Friday Favorites as a reminder, so if any of my blogging sisters are in the same boat, this pack is only $5.99 on Prime.

4.  Fake Bake Flawless Darker.  It's rare that I'm first on a trend bandwagon and this self tanner is no different.  Fake Bake was all over the place this spring.  Now, that everyone's pretty well tanned, you don't see it talked about very much.  When I was trying on the sleeveless top from my last post, I looked so pale!  Another blogger mentioned it again, so I decided to try it.  The first coat I rubbed in really well, as per the instructions.  Some places, probably too well, as the following day I could see light splotches.  So, for the second coat, I made sure to hit those places without rubbing them so much.  I'm very happy with it.  There's a couple of spots that aren't perfect from "operator error," but I don't think they're noticeable to anyone but me.  I didn't check to see how quickly the color was at it's fullest, as it was applied two mornings in a row and wasn't for a specific event.  Two applications was perfect for me.   Steve even thought using it was a good idea.

5.  Shapermint.  Have ya'll seen these ads as much as I have?  Summer isn't a time when most of us even think about wearing shapers.  Once in awhile, though, I wear a high-waisted one like this (w/o the shorts legs) to tame my mid section.  I noticed my existing one is quite ratty, so purchased this at half off (which it's at currently).  Right now, I'm wearing size 14 jeans (and squeezing into some 12s) and according to their size chart, I am a size XXXL.  That's right, 3Xs!  It wasn't as miraculous on me as it is on their ads (maybe it would have been if I'd ordered a smaller size--haha!).  It's my opinion that it's average after one short trial.  I spent $24.99, so I'd say it's not bad cost-wise.  I do like the top of the shaper, as it seems like it will stay up and is comfortable.

That's it for this week!  I hope you enjoyed my roundup.  Have a wonderful weekend and see you next week!
