Friday Favorites #79~New House Pre-View

Discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you, delivering you from the way of evil, from men of perverted speech, who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, who rejoice in doing evil and delight in the perverseness of evil, men whose paths are crooked, and who are devious in their ways.  Proverbs 2:11-15

Hey! and welcome to Friday Favorites!  It's a lot of fun to do some sharing with you, today.  We are doing several updates to the house, so those have to be completed before any of the fun, decorating stuff can be done.  Let's take a look!
1) Voted by Mail (Okay, this isn't about the house, but it's important!).  Phew.  I hadn't renewed my driver's license when I first moved to TX in October.  Forward to my birthday and we were in lockdown.  It was easier to renew by mail at the FL address.  By the time we closed on the house at the end of September, I hadn't tried to get a vote-by-mail ballot.  I had to go online and print out a paper verifying my status, sign it, and send it to the Supervisor of Elections in our former county.  I was sweating it a little and called their office.  It turns out my ballot was in the mail.  I turned that baby around ASAP.   And, haha, notice my face mask?  It's the fabric that was shown awhile back.

2) Unpacked boxes the "fun" way.  I'm not sure there really is a fun way to unpack boxes, but, and the girls swear this was my idea, for every box unpacked we had a jello shot!  Hahahaha!  Actually, I think I joked about doing it and, well, we all ran with it!

3) New Kitchen Table.  Getting a kitchen table right away was really important to me.  We were tired of eating at the kitchen counter all the time (facing a 'fridge) and if the girls were over we sat around the coffee table.  I changed my mind about every ten minutes about what I wanted to do/get and couldn't decide if a 48" table would be big enough.  This Ethan Allen set showed up on FB Marketplace (with an additional leaf and two more chairs) for a very reasonable price, so I bought it.  It's not ultimately the style I want, but it's perfect for right now.

Yeah, of course I made new placemats to go on it.  There wasn't enough multicolored fabric for four, so we have have two and two.  I'm kind of lovin' 'em, because we have blue plates in the same color as in the design.

4) Kitchen and Rendering.  The top photo is our kitchen now, looking out toward the family room.  The bottom photo is a rendering.  You'd think planning a new kitchen would be fun.  It's rather stressful, because so much is on the line.  We were hoping the island could be angled the other way, but there isn't enough width in the room.

In the family room we will be getting new furniture eventually and are adding a wood mantel and modifying the storage/display units on either side of the fireplace.  (Seen in the rendering.)

The living/TV room's fireplace will be getting an update and the TV will eventually be mounted over it.

In the dining room, the large mirror on the wall will be removed and the chandelier replaced.  The boxes that are in there now:  One is a foyer chandelier and the other is a sink and vanity for the powder room.

5) The Family, Living/TV and Dining Rooms.  These rooms are, and will be, in a state of flux for several months.  After the kitchen is completed, we want to put hardwood flooring through the entire area (all except bedrooms) in addition to the individual items, above.

We are really loving this house.  I don't know if it's the house itself, getting out of a small apartment, the relief of being out of the old house, or all three!  It seems just right and cozy for us.  The girls enjoy coming over, too.

That's it for now, friends!  My 2nd knee replacement surgery is a week and a half away (Tuesday, November 10), so I'll be recovering from that all over again.  We hear we'll get quite a few Trick-or-Treaters tomorrow.  I bought variety bags of chips and am making a top to wear--which you'll see soon!  Have a great weekend!
