What to Pack for a Tropical Vacation: Puerto Rico

Back Street of Old San Juan (t-shirt/ shoes)

Hey Friends!  (If anyone's out there!)

I needed to go back to visit my Key West post to see how I should pack for this trip--which was helpful!  So, decided to pop in and do an update.

The Background

Darling Husband and I celebrated our 40th anniversary in January.  We knew we wanted to get away to someplace semi exotic!  Traveling can still be a bit "iffy" for Covid testing, etc.  So, we decided on Puerto Rico, since it's U.S. territory and there wouldn't be any difference in regulations.

We spent three days in old San Juan and three days at a beach resort.  My packing list was:

  • one pair of shorts for every two days.  (Gold, Red, Printed)
  • one top "per day" (Band t-shirts, sugar skull, turquoise print, pink gauze
  • Plus two extra tops for days when top #1 became too grungy from perspiration: teal tank, green t-shirt, pink gauze long sleeve for cold hotel room, etc.
  • A Farm Rio dress
  • A Garnet Hill swimsuit
  • A large scarf used as a sarong
  • Sun hat
  • bandana
  • Shoes:  Enclosed Chacos, Birkenstock sandals, orange Comfortiva sandals
  • Purchased while there:  A gauze top (shown in fountain photo) and long scarf.

You can see some of my wardrobe choices in this post.  The gold (linen) and red (cotton) shorts were made by me for the trip using J. Jill shorts I purchased last summer for a pattern, the printed shorts are from Anthropologie.  The sugar skull and turquoise tops were made by me a couple of summers ago.  The Beatles and AC/DC t-shirts, shown, are from Macy's men's department.

Summary

I felt like everything went so right with my packing this time, except that t-shirts are too warm unless worn early morning or evening.

There are a couple more purchases and things that I'd like to go over in my next post that worked out really well, too!  Stay tuned!

I don't know how Shop Style works these days.  I had a devil of a time trying to find items.  It seems like the same ones kept showing up.  If you want to leave me a tip, please do!
