The Challenge
This seemed like the perfect time to build a summer neutral outfit since the library ladies are hosting a
challenge around a powder horn and wampum shoulder belt in their Style Imitating Art series. Jen at Librarian for Life and Style is hosting this week. Also hosted by Salazar from 14 Shades of Gray and Daneal at Living Outside the Stacks.
The Details
Using the powder horn as a jumping off point, I'm pulling my textured handkerchief-hemmed skirt, blush t-shirt and sandals. The texture imitates the horn design, the pink a nod to the bits red, the leopard ties to the scalloped portion where the horn connects to the spout. I meant to wear a quatrefoil necklace to echo the design in the strap, I unthinkingly grabbed the horn necklace, not because it was a horn, but because I liked it with the skirt! This outfit is both fun and casual-dressy.
Oops!
The Takeaway
Inspiration for styling your outfits can be found pretty much anywhere--if something visually appeals to you think about "why" and add those elements to your personal style, i.e., the powder horn has a textured look, but a flowing shape.

P.S. I'm still on a learning curve with my photos, thanks for your patience! I would have liked to get close-ups of my accessories!
Hi Kim! I've come visiting from Style Imitating Art. I thought your outfit was absolutely brilliant- the outfit just fits the bill so well. I particularly love the fringing- it really resembles the horn with its patterning as well as shade and the curve of the hem resembles the shape of the horn- plus that animal print clutch bag really nods to the strap! I love it!
