What to Wear to the Dali Museum

The Challenge
There were several challenges for this post.
They consisted of:  1) What to wear to the Dali Museum in St. Pete to be comfortable for heat, air conditioning and walking; 2) Dress for Style Imitating Art; 3) Having Darling Husband take photos.  When I asked DH if he would mind being the photographer, that a lot of husbands did it for their wives, he thought I was joking.  Then he gamely said he would do it for me.  W...e...l...l, he never uses my camera (Canon Rebel) and I have been the de facto picture-taker for the family since forever.  What comes naturally to me, didn't occur to him.  Suffice it to say, quite a bit of editing was involved for the photos that survived.

The Details
This is the first time I've been to the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Pete since we've lived in the Tampa Bay area.  I enjoy art museums and this was no exception.  It took us about an hour to go through it.  Fortunately, only about a third, or less, of the exhibit was his "anti-art" surrealist work, as that's a little harder for me to appreciate.   I really enjoyed learning Dali's history, influences and seeing the evolution of his work.

For this outfit, olive green, red, warm brown and teal were pulled from the inspiration artwork, as well as, a substantial necklace.  A linen skirt was selected, recently found at a consignment store.  I was smitten by the ragged-edge ruffles along the hemline.  The waist was a little tight, so a piece of fabric was added to make it fit better using this How to Resize Waist video.  Also, the olive green was faded, and not in a "cool" distressed way, so I over-dyed it to get it darker using a recipe from the Rit website.  My Old Navy top was added, along with a Chico's belt (also found on consignment), cabi cardigan (eBay) and other accessories.  The ensemble was cool and comfortable (I thought the necklace would get hot, but it was light-weight enough, that it wasn't an issue).  We walked to a trendy Mexican restaurant, that was almost completed with it's re-model to usher in the "season" which is starting now.  Which meant my Downtown Cadillac margarita was served in a plastic cup...

And, ha ha, I must have entered some sort of nexus being in an art museum for the Style Imitating Art series!

The Takeaway
***If you're near St. Pete (St. Petersburg, FL), it would be worth making an effort to go to the Dali Museum and Red Mesa Cantina
***Be patient with your husband's efforts.
***Misc. Fashion Tip:  Don't know what to wear with your rose gold jewelry?  Try it's contrast, green.  (Necklace, Alex & Ani bracelet, Fossil watch and earrings are rose gold).  I like it a lot with blush pink, too!

  1. That skirt and tank look like they were made for one another - good job with the 'ol Rit! I'd say your DH did a great job taking your pictures, that is hard work! I know I'd die if someone asked me, while I know what I'm looking for I'm not sure I can deliver it to someone else.
You were dressed perfectly for the art museum!

  2. Gosh, this is perfect. It's amazing what we have to consider when we go places. Especially when the insides are air conditioned so much!!
And kudos to your hubby. Mine has learned a ton in these last couple of years, but it's taken a lot of practice!!

  6. I love the frill details of your skirt - its gorgeous. I haven't visited a museum in a while - I should make more effort as I'm so near London. My hubby was a reluctant photographer at first, like I have to tell him to put it away haha xx Maria
