Snakeskin With a Side of Mustard

The Challenge
Major shout out to the Style Imitating Art (14 Shades of Grey, Librarian for Lifestyle, Living Outside the Stacks) ladies today!
If it weren't for this week's challenge, selected by Salazar at 14 Shades of Grey, I'm not sure if I would have put these pieces together and I really adore the combo!  From the inspiration art, I first chose my warm mustard cardigan.  Since this piece depicts mice and nature, I added my snakeskin print top, which also adds texture as seen in the watermelon rind.  The red moth, flower and watermelon fruit gave me a reason to add pops of red.  My pants are a nice rich olive green, but the photos make them look more grey.  (I tried using a warm filter in my pants/shoes closeup, but the color still doesn't read right-boo!)  The bow ties on the pants even emulate the abstract leaves.

The Details
The cardigan is Madewell from this spring.  Vince Camuto pants from Nordstrom (the flagship Seattle store ❣ ), also late winter/early spring purchase.  Micheal Kors snakeskin print top, eBay.  The shoes, scarf, and pink wrap bracelet are from consignment.  Red Dooney & Bourke handbag as seen in a previous post.  Misc. note:  The one thing I might change in this outfit is not have the fringes hanging down on the scarf, but either wrap them to the back, tuck them, move them over to the side--you get the idea--as they seem a bit distracting.

The Takeaway
(1) Pointed toe shoes do, indeed, elongate the leg.  (2) If a color you really like doesn't go well with your skin tone, in this case, mustard for me, add a scarf that does go well to break up the color.  (3) Just as leopard can work as a neutral, this brown/beige snakeskin can also easily be paired with a print.
