The Challenge
It seems like this spring/summer there have been more fall-colored clothing options available. What do you do if you like those colors, but don't want to commit to a fall look when the temps are hot? When I took these photos the heat index was 97℉ (36℃).
The Details
One day a couple of weeks ago, this area and some other parts of the country were having a heat wave. (That temp ↑ doesn't count!) When I had to evacuate the house for a showing, I took my dog to doggy daycare and went to Stein Mart, which is really close by. Otherwise, doggy and I would be sitting outside somewhere. Yeah, if you go looking around in a store there is a 100% higher likelihood that you'll purchase something than if you don't go in!
If you're not familiar with Stein Mart, it has its own unique mix of items. Lots of them are too glitzy for me, but they do have some Lucky Brand, Free People, Democracy and Jessica Simpson selections--all brands that hit my sweet-spot style radar. I had to have this Lucky Brand tank top (now permanently reduced in below link). The yoke inset is lace and has red speckles in it. It's made from a linen/lyocell knit. And, you know how I'm always blah, blah, blah-ing about my coordinated wardrobe? This Madewell cardigan from spring '18 goes perfectly with it. There are bits of white in the top's print, so adding white jeans was a no-brainer. While a red necklace would look good, I decided to let the mustard-color rule the day with this stone necklace. Barn red was added with my sandals and made-by-me bracelet (I wore the sandals to the bead show, so I could pick out coordinating beads!). A current favorite, MAC Brick o'La lipstick, was added for additional contrast.
The Takeaway
By all means, wear fall-colored clothing in spring and summer! To give it a lighter feel, pair with white or another color associated with spring/summer. While this top already had white in it, you can see that even if it didn't it wouldn't have mattered.
