The Challenge
This is such a fun day for me! I don't usually post on Tuesdays, but this is a special occasion. Recently, Debbie from Fashion Fairy Dust, did a post wearing her chiffon skirt. It reminded of this skirt and that Debbie has a few tulle skirts of her own and styles them so well. When I asked her if she'd like to double up and join me for a Tulle Skirt Day, her answer was "Yes!" Soooo, if you haven't been to her blog, yet, hop over there and see how she's styled hers. The Details
I looked, and looked, and looked at this skirt in the Garnet Hill catalog last winter. When early spring rolled around and it was in their clearance catalog for under $20, I jumped! The color is called Fawn, which is a beige/blush.
Not long ago, Angie at You Look Fab did a post on long jackets over flared skirts. My long linen jacket was ignored this summer, so when I saw the post, I thought maybe it would work over my new tulle skirt, if the fabrics weren't too mismatched. The linen jacket is a cocoa brown, so the colors go together well.
Gladiator sandals, an asymmetric belt, a spiky necklace and leather bracelet (the bracelet and shell are olive green) were added to make the skirt less sweet. The outfit came together, although if I stand the wrong way, and the jacket flares along with the skirt, I kind of look like "large Marge." Other than the large Marge part, I think the outfit turned out really well.
The Takeaway
Be sure to try things you think won't, or shouldn't work and see what happens. Combining what could be a quite dressy skirt with a sportier jacket and accessories that have some edge to them really hits my style sweet spot. You could copy the long jacket over flared skirt idea and get a completely different look. Stop over and tell me if you give it a try!
