Welcome to this edition of Style Imitating Art!

Style Imitating Art is hosted biweekly by Daenel~Living Outside the Stacks, Salazar~14 Shades of Grey and me.  Style Imitating Art challenges us to look to create an outfit using art as inspiration.  In addition to colors, you may also want to look at textures, mood, style, genre.  There are no "wrong" outfits, and you don't need to be literal.

The Inspiration
The current artwork selection is something a little different - a Bauhaus 1920s ballet called Triadisches Ballett (Triadic Ballet).  The below is a collage of screen shots of the ballet found here on YouTube

The Curator
This selection was curated by Salazar from 14 Shades of Grey.

My Look

My outfit is loosely based on the character in the below, left yellow box.  Lucky for me, two sources of inspiration came at roughly the same time.  First, our artwork, second, a recent blog post at You Look Fab pairing Midi Dresses and Stompy Boots.

This nuuly* Melanie Shirtdress by Corey Lynn Calter rental is close in color to the character, and also has uniformity/symmetry.  It came with a wider fabric belt, which I didn't care for, so subbed it out for a cabi cinch belt.  Adding the "stompy" footwear, corresponds with the exaggerated costume pieces.  The scarf is a consignment store find.  My Vince Camuto wrap watch, Talbots braided leather bracelet and butterfly earrings round out the accessories.

*There's currently a $20 OFF holiday special for your first month's subscription of nuuly! Please leave me a comment if you're interested!

My knee is slightly better, I did make it to church, but I didn't want to venture out from our hallway when I took these photos.  On the major upside, with a bad knee my Docs couldn't have been more comfortable.

Join Us
...There's still time!  Please consider joining us, the more the merrier!  You don't have to be literal.  As a matter of fact, some of the most interesting interpretations are not literal!  Send a picture of your Style Imitating Art inspired outfit to Salazar at 14shadesofgrey@gmail.com so she receives it by Tuesday, December 16.  She will share the roundup submissions on her blog on Wednesday, December 17.
