About Style Imitating Art
Welcome to this edition of Style Imitating Art!

Style Imitating Art is hosted bi-weekly be Salazar~14 Shades of Grey, Daenel~Living Outside the Stacks and me.  Style Imitating Art challenges us to look to creating an outfit using art as an inspiration.  In addition to colors, you may also want to look at textures, mood, genre and style.  There are no "wrong" outfits and  you don't need to be literal.

The Inspiration
The current artwork selection is Arnolfini Portrait by Jan van Eyck.  Read more about this fifteenth century oil painting at Wikipidia.

The Curator
This week's curator is Salazar from 14 Shades of Grey.  She selected it because she recently watched a BBC mini-series called "A Stitch in Time" in which they recreate outfits from famous paintings.  Including today's selection.  Plus, green for the recent St. Patrick's Day.

My Look
The artwork's look is so opulent, that the clothing in my closet pales by comparison.  Awhile ago, for another Style Imitating Art, I used the same blouse with a green cardigan that is closer to the dress color.  My military jacket isn't as rich, but I liked that the peplum somewhat echos the gathered waist.  I used the teal from the woman's underdress and went with khaki pants to pick up the color of the fur trim on the overdress.  My beads are dark green.  I considered wearing burgundy and denim to emulate the man's dress, but wanted to deviate from denim.  If you are still going to put an outfit together, don't overlook the lush red upholstery for inspiration!  If I had wooden-soled clogs, I would have worn them-- did you notice the shoes at the bottom left of the painting?

Join Us
...There's still time!  Please consider joining us, the more the merrier!  You don't have to be literal, as a matter of fact, some of the most interesting interpretations are not literal!  Send a picture of your Style Imitating Art inspired outfit to Salazar at 14shadesofgrey@gmail.com by tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24.  She will share the round up photos on her blog Wednesday, March 25.
