Hey friends! Are you wearing tie dye, yet? Have you done any tie dying? As you know, this trend is circling back around. And, you know me and my dying (Linen Jacket, Sweatshirt, Blouse)--I figured I'd give it a try.
The Challenge
This Universal Threads tank top was purchased quite some time ago from Target. It was a pale blush pink and the tags were still on it. It was tie-dyed with a variation of the pink dye I used on my heart blouse.
The Details
I decided I wanted an allover look vs. a pattern made with rubber band placement and found this low-water immersion crinkle technique on YouTube (there are similar dying options using rubber bands). The top was crinkled into one container and a dye solution was poured over it till it was just covered. It only stayed in the solution for a few minutes (shown below). You can see in the photos, the front ended up with more saturated spots and the back came out more mottled.
We ended up having some warm weather, so no cardigan or jacket were needed for this outfit. While I didn't intend to feature this skirt again, so soon, it was my favorite with the top. From there, it was a simple matter of selecting accessories to pull out the various colors, i.e., blush pink belt, orange handbag and dark red sandals. My sandals even have a similar appearance to the dyed look.
The Takeaway
The sky's the limit if you want to tie dye something yourself. The process doesn't need to be daunting or messy, either. This was the simplest thing I've done.
