Sing praises to the LORD, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name.  For his anger is but for a moment and his favor is for a lifetime.  Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes in the morning.  Ps. 30:4-5

The Challenge
Ya'll know I've been crushing a bit on wide leg pants this season.  Today, I'm joining my friend Jodie from Jodie's Touch of Style to show you how we've styled our full pants.  If you haven't already, take a minute to check out her looks, too.  Since I've been at home with my head down, bent over my sewing machine, here's the version I came up with!

The Details
It seems like any and all at-home online hobby items are sold out, overly priced or on a long waiting list.  Such is the situation with fabric.  Reminded by a major dive into Reddit's sewing group, fabric can come from many sources.  Enter:  A bed sheet.  A.  Bed.  Sheet!  I knew I wanted red floral print, so searched for a flat twin on eBay.  (Total cost, including shipping:  $18)

Employing McCall's pattern 7164, the entire length of the sheet was used and you can see the print was centered on both the front and back legs.  Looking at the side seam (below), you can see the print "drop" is about 3" off between the front and back.  That's as close as I could get it and, dare I say, better than most RTW?  These are 100% cotton and wrinkle resistant, so can be tossed in the washer and dryer and are on the "crisp" vs. soft and drapey side.  There are in-seam pockets which were flipped the wrong way in most of the photos-argh!

The print goes really well with olive greens, but I opted for a classic chambray top this time.  When taking the photos it was quite windy, which made the pants even more fun with them billowing around my legs.  I felt stylish, comfortable, cool--all the things that make for a fun wardrobe piece!  My only "oops," if you want to call it that, is the way the flower pattern comes together in the crotch.  I'm hoping, I won't be standing straight and still enough for anyone to take notice.

Work in Progress:  1. Trying to figure out where to center the print; 2. First fitting; 3. Checking print layout; 4. Fabric formerly a sheet!

[Sewing notes (please, feel free to skip):  The hips were taken in.  The front waistband was supposed to be curved, but was substituted for a straight one.  The back waistband was supposed to have two casings with narrow elastic, it was substituted for one casing with 1" elastic.]

The Options
While I know some women could pull off a fuller top over these pants, it's not the route I would take.  I could see these with a graphic tee, front tucked or knotted with casual sandals.  Leopard coordinates really well,  as seen by my belt, so adding a leopard handbag, cardigan or shirt would be fun.  Wouldn't a shrunken red cardi with a silky beige or blush cami and rhinestone jewelry be a great night out look?  I'm seriously considering buying another sheet and sewing a pj-style top to make the outfit look like a jumpsuit.  I'll be on the hunt for red beaded earrings, as well!

So, what do you think?  Will you be adding full leg pants to your wishlist or wardrobe anytime soon???

I'm participating in #memademay2020.
