Put to death therefore what is earthly in you:  sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.  On account of these the wrath of God is coming.   In these you too once walked, when you were living in them.  But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.  Col 3:5-8

About Style Imitating Art
Welcome to this edition of Style Imitating Art!

Style Imitating Art is hosted biweekly by Daenel~Living Outside the Stacks, Salazar~14 Shades of Grey and me.  Style Imitating Art challenges us to create an outfit using art as inspiration.  In addition to colors, you may also want to look at textures, mood, style, genre.  There are no "wrong" outfits and you don't need to be literal.

The Curator
This week's curator is me.  The current art selection is Liberty Head by Peter Max.  You know I love saturated colors and a penchant for contemporary art.  Since we just celebrated Memorial Day and it's an American holiday, I thought using the Statue of Liberty would be timely.

My Look
Hahaha!  This is my rendition of "middle-aged-woman tries to capture the youth that she never had"!  At the time I selected this artwork I had two other outfits in mind before I decided on this one.

When I saw this Led Zeppelin Asian Tour t-shirt, I immediately fell in love with the colors and design.  The background is a pale oatmeal color, which you don't see very often.  As Darling Husband saw me put it on, he thought maybe it was a bit disingenuous since I was never much of a rock 'n' roller.   My philosophy is that if the band is of my generation, it's fair game (Hey, I listened and danced to my share of Stairway to Heaven!).  The t-shirt is multi-colored like our inspiration, the stacked photos, while individual band members, reminds me of Andy Warhol's, another pop artist of that era, grid portrait style.  The hat was added because of Liberty Head's crown.  I had thoughts of wearing the bandana as a neckerchief, but when I saw it lying next to my hat, I knew it was meant to be a hat accent!  It contributes the perfect "psychedelic pop" to the look.  Sandals were chosen because it was quite warm and the red clutch was grabbed since it matched perfectly.

The cardigan was purchased to go with the t-shirt.  The story is, I was wearing my magenta tank top, seen at Sundance Skirt knockoff's post, and noticed how much I liked the color with the pink on the shirt.  The tank top is J. Jill from a couple of years ago, so I went on eBay and searched for a J. Jill cardigan.  This summer-friendly linen one popped up.  While it's unusual for me to do something like that, I knew I wanted to refresh my cardigans and this color is in my current wheelhouse.  Add to that, it was a good price!

Back to the graphic tee.  I'm going to see if I can find some fabric to coordinate with it and make a skirt to create a fun, casual outfit.  Shhh, between you and me, I think my rock 'n' roll band t-shirt days are over!
