Welcome to this edition of Style Imitating Art!  

Style Imitating Art is hosted bi-weekly be Salazar~14 Shades of Grey, Daenel~Living Outside the Stacks and me.  Style Imitating Art challenges us to look to creating an outfit using art as an inspiration.  In addition to colors, you may also want to look at textures, mood, genre and style.  There are no "wrong" outfits and  you don't need to be literal.

The Inspiration
The current artwork selection is Tripled Portrait of Charles II by Kehinde Wiley.

The Curator
This week's curator is Salazar from 14 Shades of Grey.  

My Look
It seems as if Salazar was able to peek right into my sewing room when she selected this artwork!  The top is another recent make using the same pattern (Vogue 1503) as seen at What is the Best Top for Spring.   The fabric design, with its swirls and curls, is amazingly similar to the background of The Tripled Portrait of Charles II.  The swirls must be periwinkle as when the top is paired with denim, the swirls look purple--when it's paired with purple, they look denim-colored.  Since the top is so summery looking, white crops were added along with simple leather accessories.

I was looking forward to taking pictures at this location.  It's an abandoned building with heavily tinted windows that reflect all sorts of pretty mirrored colors when driving by, which reminded me of the silver jackets in the artwork.  The windows didn't deliver color, but still have reflections.  I guess my hair could also stand in for silver, too!
