Style Imitating Art (Roundup): Tlingit Mask

Praise the LORD, you his angels, you might ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.  Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will.
Psalms 103:20-21

Welcome to the Style Imitating Art Roundup!  Style Imitating Art is hosted by me, Daenel~Living Outside the Stacks and Salazar~14 Shades of Grey.  Every two weeks, we select a piece of art.  After that, it is up to us (and you!) to make an outfit inspired by the artwork.  Let's see what today's participants have selected!

About Style Imitating Art
In addition to colors, you may also want to look at textures, mood, style, genre or contrasts.  There are no "wrong" outfits, and you don't need to be literal.

The Curator
This week's inspiration piece was curated by me.   Fierce Fashion Blog is where I like to add some refinement to edgier looks.  At least that's my goal!

Inspiration Artwork

The current art selection, is a tlingit mask from Alaska dated approx. 1820-1840.  Even though it's July, we're all channelling our inner eskimo!

The Co-Hosts
Salazar  used her fabrics and shoes to emulate the texture of the mask.  Her entire outfit is thrifted (accept for accessories).  Nice job, Salazar!  See her Wear Your Mask post.

Daenel embraced the neutrals with a sheer gray overdress that has tribal looking embroidery, jeans and mustard colored flats.

Submissions

Nancy decided to wear this geometric skirt picking up the colors and more organic look.  You are looking amazing, my friend!

Welcome to Michelle, a newcomer with us at Style Imitating Art.  I love that she embraced the neutrals and even the mask with her hat and sunnies.  What a nice dress!

Kezzie~KezzieAG
Kezzie went a floral, feminine route with her pretty dress and added the mustard color and texture with her jacket and background.  She's looking so sweet!

Mike used the colors in his outfit and also has the same colors with textures in his background.  The mask on the right was made by one of his coworkers which "probably saved me many times during my much need trips to the grocery store".  The mask on the left is a plain surgical mask that he customized for our challenge with crayons(!) to match our theme mask.  This is also his last week for awhile as he will be starting to back to work soon.  We'll miss you, Mike, and hope you will join us when you can!

Lesley is emulating the colors of the mask, as well as, the texture with her top and a bit of tribal element in her beads and bracelet.  I'm liking the extra bit of texture peeking in the her scarf on her handbag handle.

Terri is another newcomer that we're happy to have join us.  She picked up the black with her base column of color and added the tribal element with her vest.  Terri is both an artist, sewer and refashioner--I'd say we have a lot in common (except for the artist part!).  See her entire ASOS vest post.  Oh, yeah, loving those lace up shoes, too!

Is it just me, or does Leslie look like she stepped out of a fashion catalog or magazine?  She looks stunning in this printed (embroidered?) and tasseled maxi dress.  I hope she's going someplace special!

My Look
One World skirt (similar) | LOFT knit tee (similar) | J. Jill belt (similar) | Scenic Route necklace (similar) | Doc Marten Ryker sandals | K. J. Lane bracelet, leather cuff (similarsimilar)

My look picks up on the colors and tribal look.  For more details see my Maxi Becomes Midi post.

Thank you to all of our 🌟Rock Star🌟 friends who joined us this week for Style Imitating Art.  We really appreciate your well-thought-out and styled interpretations and look forward to what you might come up with next time!
