Friday Favorites #77~Joann's Haul

The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them.  Isaiah 11:6

Hey, friends!  I was really looking forward to sharing this haul!  It's not often that you'd think about getting a haul from Joann's (although they do have lots of cute home decor).  This particular day, I happened to pick up a few things that were fun and wanted to share.

1) First off, the impulse buy, socks.  Now, I'm not often an impulse shopper, but these "Coffee Please" socks were irresistible.  What you don't know is, everyday that Steve doesn't go to the office, he goes out and gets us coffee.  I thought they were way too cute to pass up.  Plus, I know I'll get lots of use out of them.  For the record, Starbucks is less than a mile from our apartment!

2) Fabric for boxer shorts.  Do you remember boxer shorts where featured on my 10 Essentials for Knee Surgery list?  I found this free downloadable pattern at George and Ginger Patterns and made a pair.  If you want to freshen up your sewing skills or try a beginner project, this would be a good one.

[Sewing notes:  I cut a size bigger so they'd be loose.  Added 1/2" to the length and instead of a casing for elastic, I folded the top down a generous 1/4 and sewed underwear elastic (the kind you see in boxers) onto the top edge, by stretching and zigzag-ing twice around it.]

3) Denim patchwork fabric.  To design this, the thought went through my mind "what if Free People designed walker totes."  Mind blown.  Another item from my 10 Essentials for Knee Surgery list.  It was a lot more fussy to make than I thought it would be.  Because of the angles of the legs and limpness of the fabric, getting the velcro tabs on the reverse side in the right places was a challenge.  For the record, the water bottle holder was a breeze to add.

4) Red fabric dye.  I haven't been reaching for this top and cardigan for some time, although I really like them both.  I thought making them an intense red would breathe some new life into them.

5) Thrifted Jeans (NOT ME & not Joann's).  My daughter has lost a lot of weight (about 60 lbs.) in the last year (she did macro dieting for body building and she's vegan).  She's 6' tall, so didn't look bad at that weight, now she's a mini.  Anyway, she didn't have any jeans that were small enough, plus she wanted to go more sustainable.  She and I met up at the thrift store one day this week and she got these LOFT and Kut From the Kloth Jeans and since I was checking out with her she got the jeans, two tops and a few books all with my senior discount for under $20!  (I'm not exactly sure with the discount is, but we kept seeing amounts off when the cashier was ringing us up.)

That's it for this week!  Thank's so much for joining me today.  We don't have anything planned for the weekend.  Steve has been up to his eyeballs getting things organized for our closing on Monday.  One of our girls is coming back from visiting her sister in FL who had a fever.  I think I'm going to stay away from her till after my surgery, since we don't know if the fever was generic or Covid related.  Ugh.  Have a wonderful weekend!
