Style Imitating Art (Roundup): Garden Under Snow by Paul Gauguin

Welcome to the Style Imitating Art Roundup! Style Imitating Art is hosted by me, Daenel~Living Outside the Stacks and Salazar~14 Shades of Grey. Every two weeks, we select a piece of art. After that, it is up to us (and you!) to make an outfit inspired by the artwork. Let's see what today's participants have selected!

About Style Imitating Art
In addition to colors, you may also want to look at textures, mood, style, genre or contrasts. There are no "wrong" outfits, and you don't need to be literal.

The Curator
This week's inspiration piece was curated by me.  Fierce Fashion Blog is where I like to add some refinement to edgier looks. At least that's my goal!

Inspiration Artwork
Public Domain

The current artwork is Garden Under Snow by Paul Gauguin.  For more info on this artist, check out WikiArt.  I selected it because I like the variations of soft white colors and although it's "still life," there is a lot of movement with tree trunks, what appears to be wind blowing and, of course, brush strokes.

The Co-Hosts
Daenel~Living Outside the Stacks

Daenel is emulating the artwork with this striped top "because it imitates the lines in the inspiration piece and the colors that I'm wearing are all hinted at in the painting. "  It's interesting that Daenel took what could have been a spring or summer look and made it work so well with our snow depiction.

Since it got chilly where Salazar lives, she was able to employ this cardigan which captures the colors of the snowy background, and these wool pants, which mimics the texture and the sense of movement of the painting." See her entire post.

Submissions

Jodie submitted this pretty fall-themed outfit with her rich burgundy pants, a (presumedly) hand knit sweater that looks like a leaf pattern and this fun frayed-edge jacket.

When Leslie first saw the artwork, the brown and white colors caught her eye.  She added "Loft Outlet taupey-tan cords, Loft Outlet blouse and Old Navy flecked brown cardi.  Dr. Scholl's booties.  Tried to mimic the movement in the painting with the movement of the stems of flowers in my blouse.  The cardi has flecks of white and beige that kind of look like snow...can we say that, anyway? (Sure, we can!)  And my father's 25-year pin from St. Jude's children's hospital caught my eye this morning and begged to be worn.  So proud of the work he did in cancer research."  How wonderful to have the memento of her Dad's work.

Terri~Meadow Tree Style
Terri always blows me away with her talent.  She knitted the shawl, mitts and knit and hand felted the hat.  Much of it with a technique she invented herself and taught.  These stunning natural-colored winter white pieces go so well with her skinny jeans, snakeskin booties and blue accessories with her nail polish and ring.  See her original post.

Michelle selected her new Shein top and leggings for the artwork.  Her periwinkle top is a beautiful wintery dusk color, the "wind blown" look of the print on her leggings compliment the art so well.  Haha, her floral (garden) booties are under all of that "snow."  See her original post.

Nancy submitted this winter looks that goes so well with our current artwork.  The colors are spot on and the pleats give us the wind blown look of the painting.  Her home is near a museum with a van Gogh wing along with a lot of Gauguin.

My Look

First, I want to thank you ladies who participated and sent well wishes for me and my surgery recovery.  Taking photos a few days later, wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done, but I've had fun joining you!

I picked up the winter white and faded denim blue from the artwork.  For more details, see my Denim Maxi Skirt post.

[I apologize for all of the wonky font sizes in this post.  While I cut and paste, I also go in my code and check html.  I'll do a better job next time.]

Thank you to all of our ðŸŒŸRock Star🌟 friends who joined us this week for Style Imitating Art.  We really appreciate your well-thought-out and styled interpretations and look forward to what you might come up with next time!
