The ChallengeHey, Friends! What is your opinion of Free People clothing? I don't know about you, but I have a
"love-I'm not so sure" relationship with their voluminous blouses! Before my last trip to Dallas, I wanted to get a new pair of jeans, but didn't want to haul up to the mall. There is a Stein Mart really close to me, so I popped in there. The first pair of jeans (Lucky Brand, below) I tried on fit the bill--what are the odds? Of course, I had to take a peek at some other things and found this Free People top. The colors were sooo good, and a side benefit, for me, is it's a lightweight gauzy fabric, so it will be good pretty much year 'round here.
The Details
Since I thought maybe some of you may also struggle with Free People shirts, I styled it three different ways.
- Look #1: Free People top, Cotton On cardigan, NY&Co. jeans, red pumps, pink stone necklace, red leather bracelet.
- Look #2: Same on top, Lucky Brand jeans, "red" Doc Martens. I wore a blue elastic belt for these photos--it's not supposed to show, but it did.
- Look #3: Free People shirt by itself, Lucky Brand jeans, Snow Pine Design necklace, leopard belt, floral Doc Martens (Poshmark). I think this is my favorite look, because I pulled it out at the last minute and it combines three prints (in my opinion) seamlessly.
The Takeaway
I get it. Not everyone is going to be willing to take time to "tame the 'savage' shirt!" But if you're like me and wanted to figure out the best way to handle all of the fabric, I hope this has given you some ideas with tying the front shirttails or doing a front-tuck. Good luck and let me know how it goes! For the record, you can pretty much size down one size for these tops. I tried going down two sizes, but it made the sleeves too short.
