What to Wear with Lantern Pants

The Challenge
It all started a year ago.  I found a pair of Eileen Fisher pants that I wore frequently.  They are considered lantern pants because of the full leg and tapered hem.  Then, I saw additional lantern pants at The Artful Home website.  They were definitely on my radar.   Somewhere along the line, I considered making them--how hard could they be, right?  Elastic waist, no real fitting...

The Details
You may remember the pattern ($18) from Etsy shown at Friday Favorites #19.  Then the adventure to the fabric store.  The linen cost $44 and there is enough leftover to make a matching simple top if I want to.  For the record, it is a nice quality, heavier linen.  While $62 isn't cheap, the pattern can be used again, reducing the price further.  Realistically, $44 for a good quality pair of pants is quite good!

I decided to go ahead and pair them with the modified thrifted Liz Claiborne top from Friday's post where you saw a sneak peek of them together.  As a side note, The Artful Home pants had elastic all the way around.  These have a flat front with small pleats, as you can see.  I like that there aren't gathers right across the tummy area.  The belt adds some structure to the fabric.  The look was finished off with a stack of rose gold Alex & Ani bracelets, Snow Pine Design leather bracelet (similar), Southern Living necklace (similar) and Comfortiva sandals.

I ended up wearing the pants with my gold/orange top and made-by-me abalone necklace (shown below) to the bead show.  The poor linen got sat in for two hours coming and going in the car so did bag out.  Although, no one commented on them, I felt quite artsy!

The Takeaway
Since the title of this post is "What to Wear with Lantern Pants," my thoughts:

  • Lots and lots of times you see these with tunics worn over them.  That's just not me so...
  • A front-tucked slimmer top worked.  Also, I think a...
  • Boxy cropped top would work well, too, with or without a front tuck.  If you happened to find a pair of lantern pants that are cut with less fabric...
  • A fitted top should work fine.
The "Magic" Alex & Ani bracelet was a gift to me by my daughter who worked at Magic Kingdom.  She found it at the Disney outlet store.
