The Challenge
Plaid is a strong trend this coming fall/winter season.
The problem over at Fierce Fashion is I don't have any. Well, I only have one plaid shirt, it is Old Navy brand found at a consignment store this spring. Honestly, I don't know why I'm not generally drawn to plaid, it may be because it's so often associated with fall weather or business, neither of which is on my radar. Luckily for us, what I do have, is pink. I'm having a major crush on saturated and purply-pinks this season (see My Three Fall Trend Picks), it's also having a bit of a fashion moment if you've kept an eye on any of the runway shows. (Here, here, here, here)
Our weather forecast for the next two weeks is lower 90s℉ and upper 80s℉ (31-32℃), so something you might have in mind for a traditional plaid garment, i.e., flannel or blazer, would be way too hot here. The plaid shirt I'm styling, although long-sleeved, is very light-weight. Since many of you are in climates that are cooling off, I thought I'd style something to make us both happy. For the record--I visited my daughter in Ft. Myers this weekend and it was 99℉ (37℃)! Ugh! Bring on the iced tea and lemonade!
The Details
Outfit #1 consists of the plaid shirt and button fly blue jeans, booties, and a heavier looking bag. Also, the cardigan worn around the neck will add a little warmth, plus you could put it on, if needed. I'm also wearing a horn necklace in colors similar to the booties (I don't wear these floral booties nearly often enough, so I was happy they coordinated with this outfit) and handbag, but the way my sleeves got tied, it's almost impossible to see. Button fly jeans last seen at Tropical Top and Bamboo Handbag How to Wear Clashing Colors Pt. 3.
The Takeaway
If you live in a warm climate and want to venture into plaids, look for something light weight. Don't forget you can still wear those white jeans!

P.S. I promise I'll practice not looking down from the camera. It's so hard for me to get a natural, relaxed face!

So perfect Kim! Old Navy is my go to for all the plaid shirts I have, they are the perfect weight and wear so well. I can't believe you got this at a consignment store - it looks brand new. Pink is always a good idea, right? I love those booties with the first outfit - so well done!

Thanks, Kellyann! Oddly, I don't make it to Old Navy very often (it's out of the way), so I got really lucky with this. There is a local consignment store that is just *packed* with stuff that you have to dig through.
DeleteThe colors of that blouse are beautiful! I wished it was that warm over here!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nancy! We do get tired of the heat!
DeleteNow that's my kind of plaid shirt----bright and colorful...
